Egypt to limit Chinese EV imports to official agents
The Madbouly government is preparing new rules restricting Chinese EV imports to officially licensed agents.
Egypt's cabinet announced in August 2025 that imports of Chinese-brand EVs will be restricted to officially licensed local agents. The stated goal is consumer protection: official agents must commit to spare parts supply, software support over the vehicle's lifetime, and compliance with Egyptian environmental and safety standards.
Practically, this affects grey-market imports the most. Vehicles brought in outside the official channel will face higher friction at registration and may be excluded from manufacturer software updates and warranty programs.
EVLAB only services vehicles for which we can verify VIN, OTA channel access, and a parts pathway through authorized distributors. For owners with grey-market units, we'll always issue a transparent diagnostic report so you know exactly what's serviceable, what isn't, and where the long-term cost risk sits.
