GB/T vs CCS2: Egypt weighs the future of fast-charging standards

Egypt's Industry Ministry is reviewing whether to keep Chinese-standard chargers (GB/T) alongside European CCS2.

Egypt's public DC fast-charging network has historically deployed both CCS2 (the European standard, also used by AVATR, Zeekr Egypt, and most premium Chinese exports) and GB/T (the Chinese domestic standard, used on a portion of grey-market and earlier official BYD units). In September 2025 the Industry Ministry signaled it may keep both standards in place rather than force a single-standard transition.

For owners, the practical takeaway is simple: check the inlet on your car, not the brand. AVATR 11/12, BYD Sealion 6 EV (Egypt-spec), Zeekr 001/X, and most XPeng Egypt-spec units use CCS2. Some grey-import BYD Han, Tang, and earlier Geely units use GB/T.

EVLAB installs AC home chargers from 7–22 kW with the correct connector for your car, and we keep both CCS2 and GB/T DC adapters in the workshop for diagnostic charge tests during HV battery service.
